ive been training with high volume for about two years, im 17 and without any drugs i have put on about 80 pounds, most of which being muscle, and i have been following a very schwarzeneggerian theory of training which is that more is better.
However i have started reading about mike mentzers "Heavy Duty" approach to training where he says that less training, when done to failure with good form and full reps, will lead to more muscle growth and in a lesser amount of time.
Now i can’t decide which will be better because Mentzer’s approach makes more sense, but i have gained a lot of muscle following Arnold’s and i don’t want to just abandone something for another if the other doesn’t get me as good of results
I would like to know from people who have experience doing both routines, the HVT and the HIT, and which is actually the better way of training.
Now also compare which physique looks better the HIT physique(Mike Mentzer)

Or the HVT physique (arnold schwarzenegger)

I say HIT, how are you going to improve on volume training. You can only add so many sets to your rutine, and if you keep adding, you need more time to recuperate. I use a middle one, like max-ot, check it out online, on Skiplacour . com. this is the best natural routine i’ve found so far. And it is considered a high intensity routine too.

I know i already asked abotu steroids earlier, but i would like to clarify things, i am not some ignorant punk i have done my share of research on AAS already and the only real side-effects are shrinking testicles and possible damage to the liver(only if taken orally and in large amounts of excess). Also, im am not some fat kid like someone commented actually im a new bodybuilder im 17 and i have a 47 1/2 inch chest, 17 1/2 inch arms, and a 32 inch waist, and have never touched a drug of any kind in my life(no alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, or steroids), but since i would like to get a lot bigger than i currently am i was thinking about AAS when im over 18, but they are illegal and that means that i couldnt get them from a trustworthy soource i.e a doctor
arnold schwarzenegger took steroids for over 25 years and he recieved no adverse affects from them and niether did anyone from the golden age of bodybuilding when steroids were only taken in moderation and not in excess like they are today, steroids have never been known to cause any kind of roid rage and it has been entirely made up by the gvernment to make steroids and users get a bad and almost evil image
Now explain to me why steroids are illegal!?
Probably for the same reason why marijuana is illegal and alcohol and tobacco aren’t.
Asinine politicians and the public at large not being able to read medical studies correctly.

The book is titled
"The new encyclopedia of modern bodybuilding"
My friend recommended this book. Where can I download it, if I can download it anywhere?
What is best…to kill the other answerers…see them driven before you…and hear the lamentations of the admins.

but with the body he had in his peak period, would he still do well?
I’m just wondering because I noticed that the bodybuilders today are much bulkier and therefore, different-looking.
I believe Arnold would excel very much in the same manner he did back then. Technology and the advancements in supplements (protein shakes, electrolytes, and much more) would have just catapulted his status. Yes there would have been (maybe) more competition, but at his young age he really dedicated himself like no other.
Ultimately it takes great genes to compete on the professional level and he was blessed with that as well.
He is an icon in the bodybuilding world and can be credited with getting much of America wanting to be involved into the sport during the 1970’s. Go rent the film Pumping Iron and see how much he LOVES what he does/did at the time. He really became a great ambassador of the sport of bodybuilding.

For example if like Britney Spears grew mature in 20 years (this is hypothetic yes its a snowball’s chance in heaven) and decided to become a politician, would her childish acts in her teens and twenties and her mistakes and scandals hurt her, even if she said she matured?
I know no one expects a singer to be a politician, but if they decide to change their career and become serious, would people hate them? I mean arnold schwarzenegger did that. He was a bodybuilding, then he became an actor, and now he’s a governor. His fame did help him.
Proper advertising and manipulated honesty can make a virtue out of a mistake, even a saint out of a sinner. It’s all in the spin.

i have heard numerous times that Arnold refused to eat bread, he’s been quoted saying "Bread is poison"… Why is Arnold so against bread and what nutritional advantages would he gain from not eating it, getting his carbs from other sources?
Oh, yes. The carbs are coming from other sources, such as sweet potatoes. White flour is the poison he speaks of in bread. A fibre rich, whole wheat bread without an high fructose corn syrup is fine.
But what Arnold is really talking about is protein, protein, and more protein.

Okay, so I’m 5′ 9.5", 140 lbs. I guess I would consider myself an ectomorph, but I don’t know if I’m really a hardgainer. I mean, when I do exercises like dumbell curls, dumbell lateral raises, etc., all the so-called isolation exercises for bodybuilding, I do gain muscle. Even after doing weight training only once a week, I can notice differences in muscle size and tone. I can also notice that when I haven’t trained in a while, the tone and size is lost. So, I don’t think I am really a hardgainer. Well, I am planning on regularly doing weight training now, so I was wondering whether I would see better results following one of those specially-made ectomorph workouts for skinny guys, or if I could follow the routines such as those in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s encyclopedia. I am aiming for large muscle mass, by the way.
oh and i’m 14 by the way, and haven’t taken any supplements like whey protein and such
If you want to gain mass, your diet is more important than what exercises you do. As in, adding protein powder and eating more calories than you burn.
For good strength training workouts, follow arnold schwarzenegger’s plan if you don’t have anything else to go by. There’s a lot of workouts out there formulated by people that don’t really know what they’re talking about, but The Governator is pretty well-known for going from really skinny to huge.

We had a arguement today, me and my friends and they said he had taken steroids when he bodybuilded. I said to them that he just worked out all week and a good while each day. So my question is, " Did he take steroids when he was bodybuilding ever?"
Yes he did; however, he was huge well before he tried roids.

i use to be a body builder and never got into steroids but my dad did when he was bodybuilding and i recently have been out of the game for a while meaning its been a while since ive worked out and i kinda let myself go from what i once was but i am going to get back into bodybuilding and start taking the supplements i was taking and once i reach where i was again i want to try steroids to give me that edge that hardcore lifters have bc in bodybuilding its about being the best all the good bodybuilders have used steroids at one point or another jay cutler arnold schwarzenegger ronnie coleman. i mean i understand the efects of steroids and i know they are bad and illegal but thats not gonna stop me from reaching my goal bc i can only get so big and lift so much weight until im maxed and then steroids come in and take it to another level! I NEED ANOTHER BODYBUILDERS OPINION!
I’m not a bodybuilder in the sense that I compete, but I’ve been using weights for years. In my opinion, steroids shouldn’t be used, because they cause long term health problems, to which can be dangerous to you and your family. Just look at what happened to Chris Benoit. He used steroids for years and ended up killing members of his family and claiming his own life. Roid rage is unavoidable, as are heart problems as well as other various problems that you get.
