I think it could depend on your metabolism for one thing.
For instance, despite working out regularly, having a slow metabolism could encourage your body to hang onto foodstuffs & hanging onto the bad stuff could add fat.

Speeding up your metabolism & encouraging your body to burn fat better during workouts will not only promote a leaner body but you wil also get away with eating the odd pizza or burger as well as drinking fizzy drinks now and then.
